Since we were to set sail around 8 a.m., we rose a bit early to be on time. Taking a bus down the Scenic 128, we curled our way through the towering red cliffs.
As you can imagine, cell phones and cameras don't mix well with white water rafting, so we don't have a lot of pictures to show for today. We may try to add some later once the on location photographer pics that we purchased can be downloaded.
Selfie before we started
One interesting tidbit of information we learned on the rafting trip was that Bon Jovi's "Blaze of Glory" video was shot from the top of this mesa. To say that this location is remote, is an understatement.
We took a break for a buffet lunch at a riverside ranch resort and then finished up in the afternoon.
Here's a pic from the take out point.
After a swim at the hotel pool complete with waterfall, we went back out to explore Potash Rd another scenic road in town.
It didn't let us down. You can see the towering cliffs just feet from the edge of the road. The Colorado River runs just to the left of the road as you're heading out of town to the west.
(just to give you perspective, that tiny white dot is Runcie's khaki shorts -He's standing at the base of the cliff)
Just down the road are some Indian petroglyphs chiseled into the cliff long ago.
Francey posing by some wildflowers along the cliff
Just a little further down the road were some dinosaur footprints memorialized in stone.
I, Runcie, could do this kind of exploring all day long, but I could tell after a long day in the sun that the kids were running out of gas, so instead of a stunning hike to see another arch, it was back to town for a souvenir.
We're looking forward to our drive toward the Grand Canyon tomorrow. Our hotel is about 50 miles beyond the canyon from the direction we are coming from, so I don't know if we'll venture to see it late tomorrow or not. I guess it will depend on how much sightseeing we do in Utah along the way. Either way, we'll still have a full day to see the canyon in a couple of days.
