Our Mystery Machine

WooooHooo.. and away we go…  only an hour and a half later than we scheduled.   Packing up for a family of 6 and closing up our home for about 2.5 weeks, we opted to run a little behind instead of forgetting important items (fond memories of forgetting my drivers license on our last big road trip to Canada, come to mind).

Welcome to our blog!!!   As always, we are more than happy to be the only ones to visit this blog.  While we are thankful to have a permanent place to chronicle our cross country trips, any and all are welcome to enjoy our blog along the way.   Recognizing that many of you have traveled to the places we will be visiting, feel free to comment with any suggestions.

Runcie, our fearless leader, has spent many hours planning and mapping.   Announcing the original plan, he excitedly stated, “We’ll hit Boulder, Moab, then the Grand Canyon, the Hoover Dam, Sequoia National Park, and then land in San Diego for a few days… and THEN… on the way home…”    I stopped him right there, “How about the girls and I fly home from San Diego?”   Truthfully, I think he is looking forward to some time with just him and the man child…

Like all of our other road trips, this first day is almost always the same: straight up driving…   Today’s journey carried us from Nashville to Topeka, Kansas.   So far, the most fascinating part of this trip for our crew has been the vehicle.   Having reserved our usual full size SUV,  we had quite the quandary when the rental company made a mistake and was fresh out of our normal ride.   In effort to make amends, they offered a full size 12 passenger van.  It’s big.  As the only one who did not want this monstrosity of a machine, I eventually took one for the team.

So here we are, in our big white Mystery Machine rolling smack dab through the middle of the USA.  Tomorrow, we’ll be in Boulder, Colorado.   Until then..
